Biography

Jun Zhou, PhD, Assistant Professor in Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He hold a bachelor degree from Anqing Normal University in 2010. In 2013 and 2016, He hold the Master and PhD degree from Guizhou University and Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively. In July 2016, He started to work in Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences as an Assistant Professor. From November 2019, he is working as a postdoctoral fellow in University of Massachusetts Lowell.

His research combines soil remediation and surface-atmospheric exchange processes with terrestrial biogeochemistry to understand the fate of persistent pollutants (mainly heavy metals) in the biosphere. He mainly focuses on environmental chemistry and pollution of heavy metals, with a special emphasis on their dynamics between the terrestrial surface and atmosphere. Using dynamic flux chamber and micrometeorological methods, his research finds that the forests are large net sinks of atmospheric mercury and the atmospheric mercury deposition poses risk to organism in the forests. In the agricultural land, he found the newly deposited heavy metals from atmosphere have much higher bioavailability and contribution to the corps than original heavy metals in the soils. He is also interested in soil heavy metal remediation by applications of soil amendments and foliar resistance.

He has five projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI. His studies have been extensively published in more than 30 scientific journal papers including Journal of Hazardous Materials, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, etc. As the first or corresponding authors, more than 20 journal papers has been published. He is also the reviewer for more than 10 scientific journals.
