Laboratory Profile
The Key Laboratory of Soil Environment and Pollution Remediation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KLSEPR, CAS), was established in 2008 at Institute of Soil Science, CAS. Institute of Soil Science has long been engaged in research in the field of soil environmental science and remediation. The Department of Soil Environmental Protection was established in 1976. In 1998, a Joint Open Laboratory of Soil and the Environment between ISSCAS and Hong Kong Baptist University was founded. And in 2002, the Soil and Environment Bioremediation Research Center (SEBC) was set up.
The KLSEPR, CAS is endeavored to set up featured research teams by recruiting senior scientists, fostering outstanding young talents, and strengthening collaboration with partners from both home and abroad. The missions of the KLSEPR, CAS are (1) to push forward progress in soil environmental science and promote application of soil remediation technologies, (2) to develop environmental pedology and soil remediation science and technology, (3) to provide basis for decision-making and key technologies for improvement of soil environmental quality, ensuring safety of agricultural products, protection of ecosystem and human health and promotion of sustainable economic and social development. The ambition of the KLSEPR, CAS is to build into a state of the art research platform, experimental base, world-class training center and play an important role in the development of modern soil environmental science and remediation engineering.
The KLSEPR, CAS is aimed at the national major soil environmental pollution problems urgently need to be solved in economic and social development and ecological environment construction, as well as the development needs of environmental pedology and soil remediation technology. Focusing on three research fields of soil environmental process and health, soil environmental monitoring and safety, soil remediation and management, four main research groups are set up: (1) Soil Pollution Process and Biological Health, (2) Soil Pollution Monitoring and Environmental Benchmarks, (3) Soil Pollutant Cycle and Environmental Quality Evolution, (4) Green Remediation of Soil and Groundwater Pollution.
There are 58 staff in the KLSEPR, CAS. Among them, there are 17 professors, 22 associate professors, 3 awardees of the Excellent Young Scientist Award of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 2 awardees of the Outstanding Youth Scientist Award of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 2 awardees of the National Millions of Talent Projects, 1 awardee of the National One Hundred Excellent PhD Thesis Award, 4 awardees of the Excellent Young Scientist Award of Jiangsu Province, 2 awardees of the Outstanding Youth Scientist Award of Jiangsu Province. The KLSEPR, CAS has undertaken more than 600 national or local research projects since 2008. Among them, there is one project under the 'National Key Basic Research Development Program (973 Program)', one major project under the 'National High-Tech Development Program (863 Program)'. The KLSEPR, CAS has won 6 Science and Technology Awards at national, one major project and one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
