Biography

Main educational and professional experience:

Achieved Ph.D degree from Nanjing University in 1991;

Entered Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1992 and served successively as post doctorate, associate professor and professor;

During October 1997 to December 2001, engaged in advanced studies at the University of Florida and Washington State University as a senior visiting scholar and post doctorate associate, respectively;

Currently, work as a research professor in Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor and doctoral supervisor in University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Main academic achievements:

1) Systematically studied the soil geochemical behavior and environmental effects of heavy metals in some chemical fertilizers. It is suggested that long-term application of some micronutrient fertilizers and phosphate fertilizers can accumulate cadmium, lead, arsenic and other elements in the soil, and the chemical behavior and crop uptakes of the elements in the soil are affected by pH, type of fertilizer, amount of fertilizer, crop species and other factors.

2) Conducting the research on the relationship between soil geochemistry and human health. It is believed that the assemble of long-lived population in longevous areas of China's is closely related to the accumulation of life element associates such as Se, B and Mo in soil and water environment.

3) Investigated the evolution of soil quality under the condition of intensive human activities (e.g., facility agriculture) and evaluated the impact of soil quality change on agricultural production and ecological environment. Considered that intensive human activities has had a profound effects on soil fertility and environmental quality, including accelerated degradation, aggravated pollution, producing potential risks to agricultural production, the ecological environment, and human health.

4) Carried out demonstration work on remediation technologies for low and medium- polluted farmland with heavy metals in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Proposed a series of remediation technology systems being suitable for Jiangsu province for cadmium polluted farmland, including“Sedum plumbizincicola / rice rotation + agronomic regulation”, “low accumulation rice cultivar/wheat rotation + agronomic regulation + stabilization”,  low accumulation vegetable varieties + stabilization + agronomic regulation". Constructed several sets of safe utilization and efficient remediation technology models, which are suitable for agricultural land with different planting structures and cadmium pollution levels.

So far, about 220 academic papers in Chinese and English were published, including over 90 SCI papers, 3 national invention patents, and 4 monographs.
