Major project of Natural Science Foundation of China

The symposium on Implementation plan and progress communication of Natural Science Foundation of China "Soil Compound Pollution Treatment and Bioremediation" was held in Institute of Soil Science, CAS on October 12, 2020. Director Yu Liu of Earth Science Division, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Director Renfang Shen of Institute of Soil Science, CAS, Academician Yongguan Zhu of the Institute of Urban Environment, CAS, Academician Fengchang Wu of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science, Professor Zhao Fangjie of the Nanjing Agricultural University and other experts attended the meeting. The meeting was presided by Prof. Yongming Luo and Prof. Fangjie Zhao.

At the meeting, Director Ying Teng of the Science and Technology Department, Institute of Soil Science, introduced the experts. Director Renfang Shen delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the undertaker. Director Yu Liu made a guiding speech on project implementation and management.

Prof. Yongming Luo, major project leader, delivered a general report based on the implementation plan and progress of the project. Four project vice leaders, Prof. Dongqiang Zhu from Peking University, Prof. Shuangjiang Liu from Institute of Microbiology, CAS, Prof. Jianming Xu from Zhejiang University, and Prof. Yongming Luo from Institute of Soil Science, CAS reported the progress respectively.

Expert members of the major project commented on the project implementation plan and progress and affirmed the significance of the project, including clear research objectives, comprehensive and systematic research content, feasible research plans and reasonable research team organization. More importantly, the research results can provide new principles for the development of in-situ bioremediation technology for compound pollution of farmland land and site soil, as well as provide new theories and methods for the scientific assessments on ecological risks of compound soil pollution and the development of in-situ green sustainable remediation. The major project was suggested to: (1) Further focus on scientific objectives; (2) optimize implementation plans; (3) Strengthen project management and complete various tasks with high quality.
